82 participants line up for Standerton parkrun

Standerton River Park hosts the parkrun, a free event, where runners, joggers and walkers do two laps to complete a distance of 5km.

Run director Lizette Jansen van Rensburg did the honours of getting 82 participants out of the blocks on February 17 at 08:00.

Eleven athletes improved their times last Saturday.

Wassie Rossouw recorded a time of 24:51, a new personal best (PB), followed by Welcome Ndlangisa, who crossed the finish line in 24:58.

Rodrique van der Voort registered a new PB of 25:15, Jason du Toit also recorded a new PBt of 27:08, and JJ du Toit came in at 28:11.

Parth Jayram completed the distance in 28:41, followed by Christiaan de Beer’s 28:05, a new PB.

William Abrahams also improved his time to 28:53, while Thikolelwi Mudau recorded 30:34, Jose Joseph an improved time of 32:08, Jozine Francis also an improved time of 33:26 and Estelle Els 33:54.

A round of applause usually follows first-timers, visitors and the mention of volunteers at the event, with last Saturday being no exception.

Jennifer Naidoo, Lydia Roets, Marjorie Uys, Renette de Sousa, Ruwan Vermaak, Séan Jansen van Rensburg, Sonja Fouche, Strini Naidoo, Sylvy Moodley and Zeldine Strydom took up positions to ensure a safe and smooth event.
