Event in Bronkhorstspruit harnesses power of pit bulls

The dogs took part in events such as weight pull, high jump and long hang.

A pit bull pulled more than two tons in the weight pull competition of the United Pitbull Association show held in Bronkhorstspruit on April 6.

Kallie, a three-time world champion, managed to pull 2 480kg. He is six years old and currently the strongest dog in SA. The most he has ever pulled is 5 800kg.

The overall winner for the weight pull was Blikkies, who pulled 76.9 times his own weight – 2 240kg.

Dogs and their owners came from Bronkhorstspruit, Roodeplaat and Soweto to attend the show.

The dogs competed in events such as the high jump, long hang, weight pull and conformation.

Lomo won the long hang event with a time of 02:50. In the high jump, Aira won when she jumped 2m.
