73 participants line up for Standerton parkrun

Janko van der Linden crossed the finish line in a time of 24:48, while Wassie Rossouw recorded 26:56.

Seven out of the 73 participants at the parkrun on April 20 improved their times, while five new faces took on the 5km.

Standerton River Park hosts this free event every Saturday at 08:00, offering runners, joggers and walkers the opportunity to compete against themselves.

The run director did the countdown after Lizette Jansen van Rensburg, volunteer, encouraged the group to wear something appropriate for Freedom Day on April 27.

Pieter Grobbelaar registered 28:01, followed by Riaan Dippenaar who came in at 8:34.

Daleney Grobbelaar completed her 50the event in 28:44, while Xolani Ngcamphalala, a first-timer, ran a time of 29:45.

Thikolelwi Mudau recorded 29:56, Jos Joseph 30:37, Andrew Ainsworth 30:57 in his 50th event and Patricia Mudau 35:44.

Ayanda Dlamini, Charl van Wyk, Jennifer Naido, Karen van der Linden, Krishnalal Ramdharee, Leandri van Wyk, Lia Niemand, Lydia Roets, Preyanka Dorasamy, Richard van der Linden, Ronnie Moodley, Timothy Hoop, Tuvisha Hemraj, Ngcamphalala and Zeldine Strydom ensured a safe and smooth event.
