Bapsfontein vet and K2 partner eighth in marathon series

Pieter Engelbrecht, a well-known vet from Bapsfontein, and Matthew Ballenden finished eighth in the 2024 GCU Marathon Series, a two-man canoe race (K2) held in Germiston on April 20.

This 21km race included portage races, where the paddlers had to row ashore, jump out without falling and run as fast as they could while carrying the canoe to the next place of inlet.

Engelbrecht said, “Our other discipline is sprints – short and fast races – is the 200m, 500m and 1000m races”.

Marathons are usually a 21km minimum, but some are longer and include portage races.
