Golden Eagles win U15 netball tournament in Rethabiseng
Three teams in the Bronkhorstspruit area participated in a tournament held at the Rethabiseng Sports Centre.
The Golden Eagles from Rethabiseng hosted a netball day for the U15 girls at the Rethabiseng Sports Centre on May 1.
Bronkhorstspruit and Ocean City netball clubs are the other clubs in the area that participated in the event.
The Golden Eagles won their matches to place first, receiving the gold medal.
The team first beat Bronkhorstspruit Netball Club by 27-12. They then played and defeated Ocean City Netball Club’s team by 31-7.
Bronkhorstspruit was the runner-up, and Ocean City took bronze.
The special awards went to Thembekile Madikane for the best shooter, Zanele Shongwe for the best centre player, and Angel Mgidi as the player of the match.
David Mahlangu, the head coach of the Golden Eagles and regional netball co-ordinator, said, “In the U15 teams, there is more talent that will benefit Tshwane Netball in Region 7. I am impressed with the players’ performance and fitness. The Bronkhorstspruit team was established earlier this year, and they show potential,” said Mahlangu.
