Man stabs partner in Bronkhorstspruit, gets 5 years in jail

Jabulani George Skhosana attacked his girlfriend and wanted to kill her instead of ending their relationship.

The Regional Magistrate’s Court in Bronkhorstspruit sentenced Jabulani George Skhosana (48) to a five-year jail term for assault with the intent to cause bodily harm on April 26.

The complainant told Skosana in September of 2023 that she no longer wanted to see him. After the complainant left her mother, friend, and Skosana seated together, she entered the kitchen.

When she returned, Skosana got up and hugged her. While doing so, he pulled out a knife and began to stab her.

According to the complainant, he intended to stab her in the throat, but she got away, so he stabbed her in the neck.

Only after she fell did the mother notice Skosana was going to stab her in the face. Another person intervened and hit Skosana with a bottle.

Skosana said, “I would much rather kill her than let her end our relationship.”

The court found Skosana unfit to own a firearm.

Colonel Maqhawe Simon Dhladhla, the Bronkhorstspruit SAPS station commander, complimented Detective Bjalwe Vincent Kgomo, the investigation officer, for excellent and committed work.

Dhladhla strongly condemns the continued acts of femicide, GBV, and domestic violence.

In the fight against crime, Dhladhla encourages the community to build and actively participate in community crime prevention structures in their neighbourhoods, regularly engage with the police, and co-operate closely with them to help safeguard women and children.

The police also ask community members to report these situations linked to domestic violence.
