Suspected robbers of Bethal Foschini store arrested in Booysens

The three suspects in a business robbery that happened at the Foschini store in Bethal on July 18 were arrested the same day by police in Booysens.

Congress Maneli (48), Sizwe Khambule (45) and Sipho Mnguni (51), who are suspects in a business robbery that happened at a Foschini store on July 18, appeared in the Bethal Magistrate’s Court on August 1 for a formal bail application.

The matter was postponed to August 12. The accused are remanded in custody.

According to Sergeant Thomas Mogadime, media spokesman for Bethal police, on the day of the robbery, one of the suspects entered the store, approached the teller and pointed a firearm at her demanding the key to the cellphone cabinet.

The other two suspects instructed customers to remain silent and to hand over their cellphones.

“The suspects were informed that the keys were with a staff member who was on lunch. One of the suspects was then taken to the staff room where the other staff member was. The staff member was instructed to hand over the cellphone cabinet key,” said Mogadime.

The suspects opened the cabinet, took all the cellphones and fled the scene in an unknown vehicle.
On the same day, the suspects were arrested by police in Booysens, Gauteng, for possession of suspected stolen property.

“During preliminary investigations, it was discovered that the cellphones were stolen from the Foschini store in Bethal,” said Mogadime.

The three suspects appeared before Booysens Magistrate’s Court on July 25 for possession of stolen property.

“The investigating officer on the robbery matter was contacted regarding the suspects. Bethal detectives arrested the three suspects for the business robbery,” said Mogadime.
