Grootdraai Dam levels drop

The Department of Water and Sanitation recently released a statement indicating that the Grootdraai Dam had dipped below 85%.

According to the weekly state of reservoirs report, the dam recorded a dip from 85.3% on July 24 to 84.4% on July 29.

Other dams in the Gert Sibande District recorded the same results, save for the Jericho Dam, which increased from 70.3% to 70.9%, and Morgenstond Dam remained steady at 84.0%.

Nooitgedaght dropped from 86.3% to 85.4%, Vrygeboom dropped from 100.3% to 100.2%, Heyshope from 98.6% to 98.5% and Westoe from 50.9% to 49.3%.

The statement declares that the average dam levels in Mpumalanga dropped from 92.3% to 91.7%.

According to the department, dams in the Gert Sibande district dropped from 88.8% to 88.4%.

“In light of the continuing decline in water levels, the Department of Water and Sanitation calls on the public to be responsible water users and be more conservative in their water use, fix leaks and prevent the unnecessary loss of precious water,” added the department in closing.
