Parkrun celebrated its 20th year this past weekend with a nationwide party run where they encouraged volunteers to dress up for the party.
A special message was released by the parkrun founder, Paul Sinton-Hewitt, where he explained the roots of parkrun and the event that started it.
According to him, the first parkrun consisted of four volunteers and 13 runners in Bushy Park, London.
Today, more than 10 million people are registered across 23 countries and 2 500 different locations.
“I hope in the next 20 years parkrun is still as I intended it – free, for everyone, forever,” said Sinton Hewitt.
