Rayton teacher excels in Commonwealth Powerlifting Championship

Laerskool Rayton teacher, Reuben van der Linde, in action at Sun City.

Ruben van der Linde, a teacher from Laerskool Rayton, participated in the Commonwealth Powerlifting Championship at Sun City on October 8.

Van der Linde competed in the open under 74kg division of the competition.

He managed a 230kg squat, bench pressed 137.5kg and in the deadlift he managed 267.5kg, totalling 635kg.

The Rayton teacher also achieved a bronze medal for his 137.5kg deadlift.

Van der Linde left his school and the community of Rayton proud by finishing third in the open.

“Congratulations, we are very proud of ‘meneer Ruben’,” said the teachers and learners.
