Domestic workers and employers in Secunda can expect a visit
Department inspectors visiting homes in Secunda between November 4 and November 29, will be able to help with the relevant documents and forms and to offer advice how an employer can be compliant with labour legislation.
The Department of Employment and Labour has embarked on a door-to-door campaign in Secunda this month to help employers of domestic workers reach compliance with the labour legislation.
Given Mahumani from the local offices of the Employment and Labour Department said the aim of this campaign is to reach out to domestic workers and their employers and to give information.
Department inspectors visiting homes in Secunda between November 4 and November 29, will be able to help with the relevant documents and forms and to offer advice how an employer can be compliant with labour legislation.
To be compliant, the following is required:
• A contract of employment between the employer and the domestic worker
• Monthly payslips for the domestic worker
• A domestic must be paid the minimum wage of R27-58 per hour or more
• A domestic worker must be registered for UIF as well as the compensation fund.
Mahumani said in the event that an employer is not at home when a representative knocks, a meeting can be arranged.
