Police grab suspected drug dealers in Volksrust

During the search, the police also discovered that the two suspects were in the country without valid documents. They were arrested, charged and detained.

The police seized drugs worth about R1.2m and arrested two Nigerians in Volksrust on November 28.

Ikemukwu Benjermin (39) and Christian Valentine Uchenna (37) were arrested during multidisciplinary disruptive operations conducted by the team comprising of the Hawk’s Secunda-based Serious Organised Crime Investigation, Serious Corruption Investigation, Serious Commercial Crime Investigation and the Standerton K9 units, assisted by ACSU Security.

The disruptive operation followed after information was received about suspects who are dealing drugs.


Christian Valentine Uchenna (37) was arrested for suspected drug dealing and being in the country illegally.

Upon arrival at the identified address, a suspect attempted to dispose of the evidence by flushing some of the drugs down the toilet.

The suspects were apprehended and taken to the vehicle where more drugs were found hidden in the body of the vehicle and tyres.

Ikemukwu Benjermin Ezirim (39) was arrested for suspected drug peddling and being in the country illegally.

Ezirim and Uchenna appeared in the Volkrust Magistrate’s Court on Friday and the case was postponed to December 9 for bail application. The accused remains in custody. The police also seized R2 000 in different notes, five cellphones, a weighing scale and a silver Mercedes-Benz C180.

The provincial head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Major General Nico Gerber commended the collaboration of the multidisciplinary team for ensuring that drug dealers are apprehended and kept behind the bars.

He further appreciated the community members who provided information which led to the arrest of the suspects and seizure.
