In the spirit of service and compassion, the Indawo Yosizo Foundation commemorated Nelson Mandela International Day with blankets, soup, and a health and care outreach programme held at Songancoma Service Centre in Bethal on July 24.

The outreach brought much-needed warmth, healthcare and dignity to vulnerable members of the community, including elderly residents, children and people living with disabilities.

Founder of the Indawo Yosizo Foundation, Zanele Gwebu, expressed gratitude to the various partners and stakeholders who contributed to the success of the initiative.

Enpower Machite donated 70 blankets to help beneficiaries cope with the winter cold, while Choice Pharmacy Cosmos provided free blood pressure screenings and health education to encourage community members to take charge of their health.

Representatives from the Department of Social Development engaged with elderly beneficiaries and shared information about available support services, while the IEC provided civic education and voter information.

“Mandela taught us that it is in our hands to make a difference. Together we honoured Tata Madiba by serving one person at a time,” said Gwebu.

The day featured a variety of activities aimed at supporting and uplifting residents.

A kiddies corner allowed children to read books and participate in colouring activities, with Bethal Mall donating crayons for the occasion.

Beneficiaries also took part in a free clothing shopping drive. Sanitary pads were distributed, and attendees were served hot soup, bread and oranges.

Gwebu said the foundation remains committed to working with government departments, businesses and community stakeholders to address immediate social needs while promoting health, dignity and hope throughout the Bethal community.
