Team closes some eMbalenhle tuckshops for non-compliance
The law enforcers confiscated expired goods, and those shops were closed.
The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) in the Gert Sibande region, councillors and Govan Mbeki Municipality law enforcers on November 27 closed several tuck shops in eMbalenhle for non-compliance.
Some sold expired goods, while others operated with municipal certificates that needed renewal.
The team instructed tuck shop operators sleeping inside their shops to remove their beds and blankets and to clean their shops. The law enforcers confiscated expired goods, and those shops were closed.
Recently, the municipality held a visual special council meeting for the adoption of the standard draft by-law for the township economy as promulgated by the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Velenkosini Hlabisa, and the approval of the spaza shop by-laws.
According to the municipality, the spaza shop by-laws will be effective when the council approves it.
