Bronkhorstspruit SAPS embarks on 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence campaign
“The campaign's main goals this year are to address the underlying causes of GBVF.”
Every year, from November 25, known as International Day of No Violence against Women until December 10, known as International Human Rights Day, the United Nations declares the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign.
In honour of the event, Social Crime Prevention, with the Department of Community Safety, Employee Health and Wellness (EHW), the Youth Desk and Mali Martin, embarked on an awareness campaign at the Bronkhorstspruit taxi rank and the Bronkhorstspruit central business district (CBD).
“The campaign’s goals this year are to address the underlying causes of GBVF, encourage positive masculinity, advance gender parity, and provide women and children with economic possibilities,” said Constable Cathrine Ramovha, corporate communication officer for Bronkhorstspruit SAPS.
“During the campaign, the police encouraged the public to report abuse. The community also received information on GBVF.
According to Ramovha, they made more community members aware of the criminal activity occurring in the town. They were cautioned against approaching strangers as this could lead to them becoming victims of robberies, fraud, and theft.
About 355 leaflets about domestic violence and gender-based violence, as well as tips for safer festive season tips, were provided on the day.
