Collaboration in eMzinoni spotlights GBVF

Sergeant Cynthia Mtshweni, the communication officer for the Mzinoni SAPS, said about 200 people attended and received information about services rendered by the stakeholders and the departments.

The eMzinoni community and various stakeholders marched from 1st Street to the Raymond Mavuso Hall to voice their stance against GBVF on December 5.

The eMzinoni SAPS collaborated with the departments of Health, Home Affairs and Social Development, the Govan Mbeki Municipality, ward councillors, the moral regeneration committee, traditional leaders and the local Sassa offices to hold this awareness event as part of the nationwide 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children Campaign.

Station commander Captain Lucky Nkosi spoke to the community about GBV and urged them to participate in structures fighting this issue.

“He sensitised the issue of breaking the silence and pleaded with parents to take care of their kids and ensure they are protected all the time,” said Mtshweni.

He explained the amendment to the Sexual Offences Act and implored the community to report sexual offences and any other crime-related issues.
