Local helps the community of Standerton
Lindiwe Avontuur recently hosted an event where community members received shoes, clothes and food.
Lindiwe Avontuur, founder of the Khululeka Children Foundation NPC, Richard Ncongwane and Venessa van Rooyen, reached out to the community on December 16.
During this event, less fortunate members of our community received essential goods such as food, clothes and shoes.
Avontuur began her charitable journey in Standerton in 1987 when she and her late husband, Esau Avontuur, began volunteering in the community. Though the event was nearly affected by rain, Avontuur did not see this as a bad omen.
“Blessings are falling out of the sky,” she said.
Spar, Quick Check, Standerton Veggies, Ace Hardware, Libbey van Rooyen, Sanna Makube, Annetjie Grobbelaar and Lena Dames made this event possible.
“I enjoy helping others. Many people do not have something to eat at home,” explained Avontuur.

A verse in the Bible that stands out to her, is in Matthew 25: 35-36: “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.”
Avontuur and her helpers plan to feed the community every third month.
“We would appreciate someone with a bakkie to help us. I am currently using my car, but the boot is too small to collect donations of vegetables and bones for soup,” said Avontuur.
Ncongwane helps her on Mondays to collect vegetables at shops.
“We place this in bags, which we hand out along with soup bones, to the community on a Wednesday. We currently feed 82 people who we divide into groups of 13 people each.
“Sometimes there are not enough packets for everyone, but the Lord makes a way. He sees the love we have for the community,” concluded Avontuur.
