Neighbour’s dogs attack young man from eMzinoni

Siyabonga Dlamini (28) Dlamini sustained numerous bites, especially his face, head, hands and arms.

Siyabonga Dlamini (28) believes he is lucky to be still alive after a neighbour’s three dogs attacked him on January 6.

“If it were not for my mother, those dogs would have killed me,” said a traumatised Dlamini who still has to bear the scars from the attack for a long time.

Dlamini lives in a back room in the family’s yard in Azapho Section in eMzinoni.

He was walking to his room last Monday when the neighbour’s three power breed dogs, identified as pitbull terriers, stormed him.

His mother, Gabisile Mahlangu, and other family members were in the main house when they heard Dlamini’s screams.

“I will never forget what I saw. Siyabonga’s face was bleeding and the dogs were attacking him. I don’t know from where the courage came, but I ran to help my son, grabbing a mop on the way,” Mahlangu told Ridge Times.

She tried to scare off the dogs, but the animals kept on attacking.

“When Siyabonga tried to run to the house, they followed him but fortunately his sister managed to close the door. The animal kept jumping up against the door to force it open. I used the stick until the dogs ran away,” explained Mahlangu.

Dlamini sustained numerous bites, especially his face, head, hands and arms.

He was rushed to the Bethal Hospital where his wounds were cleaned and treated. The young man was released the next day.

The eMzinoni police later visited him at his home to take his statement. According to Dlamini, the SPCA removed the dogs.
This brings him little peace as he still fears another attack.

“I have constant nightmares about the attack,” explained Dlamini.

Siyabonga Dlamini from eMzinoni was attacked by his neigbour’s Pitbulls inside his home yard.

He is extremely upset about the incident.

“What were those animals doing in our yard? We do not even have a dog of our own. These are dangerous dogs that needed to be locked inside their owner’s yard.”

Dlamini also struggles at the thought that something worse could have happened.

“What if it was one of our children who went out of the house that night, unaware that there were dogs inside our yard? They would have been torn apart by these dogs.”

Dlamini and his mother are also worried about his work.

“Siyabonga was recently employed and cannot afford to miss a day’s work. His injuries are severe and he cannot work with his hands at the moment. What if he loses his job because of this?,” said Mahlangu.

The owner of the dogs was not available for comment at the time of going to press.
