Grootdraai Dam’s level remains stable
Water levels in Mpumalanga are significantly lower than in the same period last year.
The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) released a media statement detailing the increased water levels in Mpumalanga.
According to the weekly State of Reservoirs report, average water levels in the province increased from 95.2% to 95.7%, but the Gert Sibande District recorded a slight drop from 97.6% to 97.5%.
“The listed dams in the Gert Sibande District recorded mixed results, with some recording improvements and some dropping in water levels,” stated Brian Khoza of the DWS.
The Grootdraai Dam remained stable at 101.6%. The Nooitgedacht Dam dropped from 100.3% to 100.0%, the Morgenstond Dam declined from 75.9% to 75.4%, and the Heyshope Dam declined from 101.1% to 100.5%.
Several dams in the area recorded improvements, including the Vygeboom and Jericho dams, which increased from 100.4% to 100.9% and 80.2% to 80.9%, respectively. The Westoe Dam increased to 96.7%.
“Water levels in Mpumalanga are significantly lower than in the same period last year. Therefore, the DWS encourages citizens to use water sparingly,” concluded Khoza.
