Cullinan SAPS raise awareness among the youth

The Cullinan police, together with other stakeholders, recently embarked on a youth against crime awareness campaign and dialogue.
The event took place on February 28 in the Cullinan Community Hall where local school learners as well as youth from within the community gathered.
“Some of the burning issues discussed were social ills. These social ills are believed to be the contributing factors to crimes that are occurring in the community,” said Sergeant Connie Moganedi, corporate communication officer for the Cullinan police.
She added that problems among learners include teenage pregnancy and the use of illegal substances.

“Youth from the community and local schools were allowed to pose questions in connection with criminality that negatively affects them and the solution thereof.”
Moganedi said that some vulnerable children were identified during the session.
“Non-governmental organisations and some of the other departments will do continuous follow-ups to help these children. Learners were warned to refrain from any criminal activity to make a success of their lives.
“The dialogue was a success. The police encourage youth to value their education, and have respect for their parents, teachers and fellow learners,” Moganedi concluded.
