Runners compete in Kosmos 3-in-1 Marathon in Secunda
Derrick Masango and Helena Joubert are the overall winners.
Derrick Masango is the overall winner of this year’s Kosmos 3-in-1. This 34-year-old completed the 42km race, the 21km race and the 10km in a collective time of 4:20:34.
Ntakuseni Mudau is the runner-up with a collective time of 4:29:45, with Never Mahlangu third in a time of 4:29:55
Local runner Helena Joubert (49) shined as the overall women’s winner in a collective time of 5:18:57. Elizabeth Potter was second in a time of 5:53:51 and Elizabeth Douglas was third in a time of 6:05:37.
The gruelling Kosmos 3-in-1 is a unique event that is often described as an ultimate challenge because of the cooling-off periods between the races.
There is a 42km race at 06:00, a 21km race at 13:00 and a 10km at 17:00. Athletes could enter one or all three of the races.

Jetro Sithole won the 42.2km marathon in 2:38:29. Potso Khomo finished second in 2:43:51 and Shenyana Nkomo third in 2:45:29.
Helena Joubert was the first woman to cross the finish line of both the 42.2km marathon (2:53:02) and the 21.1km (1:38:25).
Elizabeth Douglas finished second in the 42km (3:26:13) and Ziningi Ndlovu third in 3:26:57. Graham Malinga won the 21.1km race in 1:13:43, followed by Noko Mabotja in 1:16:00.
Maphuti Phaka was the runner-up in the 21km race for women in a time of 1:41:19. Lucas Jani won the 10km race in 31:34 while Thapelo Lesenyane finished second in 41:32.
Frederika Rossouw was the winner among the women with a time of 43:46.
