SAPS warn Bronkies community about N4/R25 crime

“Drivers and hitchhikers are frequently robbed of their personal property while providing or taking a lift.”

The office of the Bronkhorstspruit Visible Policing Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Sibonisile Mlaba, the Bronkhorstspruit CPF and the Department of Community Safety’s ambassadors held a crime awareness campaign.

The campaign, on March 7 on the N4/R25 bridge, informed the community about crime in the area and how to prevent it.

According to Constable Cathrine Ramovha, the communication officer for the Bronkhorstspruit SAPS, the entities stressed the dangers of hitchhiking.

“Mlaba advised the community not to hitchhike in a car with two or three passengers because they could become the victims of crime,” said Ramovha.

“Drivers and hitchhikers are frequently robbed of personal property while providing or taking a lift,” Mlala told the community.

“A rope or a wire string is used to strangle victims.”

“The deputy chairperson of the CPF, Thokozani Sindane, cautioned hitchhikers and the community to be vigilant for criminal possibilities at all times,” Ramovha added.

Community members at the campaign received informational leaflets.
