Court in Standerton postpones house robbery case
According to Captain Braam Robberts, Standerton SAPS communications officer, the suspects gained entry into the house and overpowered three residents in the home.
Four suspects, Tsepo Sibusiso Radebe, Abrey Clement Maqhinga, Siyabonga Sekeleni and Lizzy Lizbert Mbonani, appeared in court after an armed house robbery on March 14.
According to Captain Braam Robberts, Standerton SAPS communications officer, the suspects gained entry into the house and overpowered three residents in the home.
The men tied up the woman and her daughter and locked them in the bathroom while the suspects ransacked the safe.
They took three rifles from the safe, cellphones of the victims and jewellery.
The fourth suspect assaulted an elderly man and took his phone as well. Upon leaving the premises, a neighbour spotted the suspects and alerted the woman’s husband.
“Kasselman Security Services and SAPS were notified and with the assistance of Shabangu Brothers Security and the community, the vehicle was soon spotted,” said Robberts.
The vehicle had false registration plates. The team arrested three of the four suspects. Robberts said the suspects revealed the family’s domestic worker assisted them. The family employed her for over seven years and she lived on the premises.
She was promptly arrested. The suspects appeared in court on March 17, where the case was postponed until March 20 for further investigation.
They currently face charges of house robbery, assault, possession of a firearm without a license, using a vehicle with a false registration and conspiracy to commit a crime.
The Standerton SAPS urges the community to ensure their workers are cleared by the police before employing them.
“The SAPS thank every person who contributed to the successful arrest of these thugs, and we request the public get involved in crime fighting initiatives in their communities,” concluded Robberts.
