According to the latest weekly State of Reservoirs Report released on April 1, all listed dams in the Gert Sibande district recorded increased water levels.

The report by Wisane Mavasa states that average water levels in Mpumalanga increased from 99.4% to 99.9% due to persistent rainfall.

The average dam levels in the Gert Sibande District increased from 100.5% to 101.3% According to the report, the Grootdraai Dam increased from 102.6% to 102.7%, the Jericho Dam from 92.1% to 95.2%, and the Nooitgedacht Dam from 99.5% to 100.7%.

The Heyshope and Morgenstond dams rose from 101.0% to 101.9% and 97.4% to 98.1%, respectively. The Vygeboom Dam increased from 100.9% to 101.5% and the Westoe Dam from 99.6% to 100.9%.

“Despite the steady rise in dam levels, the DWS emphasises that water conservation remains a national priority,” stated Mavasa.

The DWS explained that SA is a water-scarce country, and responsible use is essential.

To save water, it urges citizens to use it effectively to avoid wastage, repair leaks, report issues in the water infrastructure, and adopt water-saving habits.
