Family in Standerton moves into allocated home after 4-year wait
According to Noluthando Nkosi, the LLM communications officer, the Nkosi family could not move into the unit rightfully allocated to them because it had been illegally rented to another couple.
Two Ext 8 residents, who could finally move into their home after years of being displaced, rejoiced on April 17. Maria and Jabulani Nkosi were officially moved into their assigned unit after four years of living in an inaccessible and unsafe home.
Mayor Sifiso Mngemezulu and the Lekwa Local Municipality communications (LLM) team officially welcome the couple to their unit.
According to Noluthando Nkosi, the LLM communications officer, the Nkosi family could not move into the unit rightfully allocated to them because it had been illegally rented to another couple.
“The couple paid rent into untraceable accounts through various cardless services,” stated Noluthando.
The LLM has tracked the false landlord for some time, but cannot contact the crooks. Noluthando explained that he deactivated his only contact number after the municipality caught wind of the situation.

Current speculation is that three more flats are illegally rented in the Ext 8 area.
“We are coming for those who hijacked these houses. We will right the wrongs of the past by ensuring homeowners are relocated to their rightful properties,” said Mngemezulu.
The Nkosi family were grateful to have finally received a home they could call their own and build up. The couple can finally gain easy access to their property and are excited to fix up their new space.
“I am so happy we finally have a place we can truly call home,” said Maria, close to tears.
Jabulani added that the first thing he would do in their new home is fix the interior. The couple looks forward to living out their days in a secure home they can call their own.
