New 5 Mega liter tank to be installed at Standerton’s WTP
The refurbishment project began in May last year and is planned to be completed in June this year.
During an IDP/Budget meeting at the Standerton Town Hall, MMC Thabang Motaung announced the ongoing refurbishment of the Standerton water treatment plant (WTP), including the installation of a new five-mega-litre tank.
Motaung explained that the budget for this project was set at R44.5m. The refurbishment project began in May last year and is planned to be completed in June this year.
On May 15, the Standerton Advertiser went on a fact-finding mission to the WTP with Alberto Franco. Franco explained that the tank would allow the WTP to deliver more fresh water to the residents of Standerton.
“If it is managed correctly, this tank will be able to solve water shortages in Standerton completely and better the municipality’s ability to deliver safe, drinkable water to residents,” stated Franco.
Franco believes that the projected completion of the tank is unachievable by June. The tank’s foundation has been laid, but much work remains before it can be used.
Franco says the tank will not be completed for at least another six months.
After the new five mega-litre tank has been completed, the old five mega-litre tank will be refurbished, adding great value to the WTP.
