ATM Scamming picks up in Standerton
Protecting your safety is vital when using an ATM.

Reports of ATM robberies and scammings have increased over the past weeks. In the most recent report, a man was scammed at the Absa ATM near the Standerton SuperSPAR on July 31.
He was withdrawing money when someone reached over and stole his belongings. Other reports state that ATM’s across town clone bank cards when people try to use them.
The Standerton Advertiser spoke to Captain Braam Robberts, the spokesperson for the Standerton SAPS, to learn what the dangers are of using an ATM.
He said it is hard to find criminals responsible for ATM scamming because the victims’ statements are often unclear.
“Many victims in these cases give fraudulent reports to claim money from their bank. This makes it hard to gather accurate information,” stated Robberts.
Protecting your safety is vital when using an ATM. Guard your PIN and ensure no one can look over your shoulder when you withdraw money.
Another helpful tip is to check the card reader for false caps before inserting your card. Always be vigilant and ensure you are not being watched when withdrawing money.
