Police and officials honour women in a parade at Secunda K9 Unit

Officials gathered at the Secunda K9 Unit for a parade and headed out to the Bracken Road between eMbalenhle and Evander, where a roadblock was set up on August 14.

Officials from SAPS, Crime Prevention Warden (CPW), Sector Policing (CPF), Govan Mbeki Municipality (GMM) Law Enforcement, traffic control, fire department, Disaster Management, and Tutela Family Care gathered at the Secunda K9 Unit near eMbalenhle on August 14 to mark Women’s Month.

The morning began with a parade at the unit, with women officials taking centre stage in the celebrations. After the parade, the teams moved to Bracken Road between eMbalenhle and Evander, where they set up a roadblock to ensure motorists were complying with the law.

Vehicles were searched for unlicensed firearms and illegal substances, with male officials present to search male motorists. Colonel Vena Sigo, station commander at Secunda SAPS, said:

“As women, we must show the men and the community that we can still do it, even in a male-dominated field like law enforcement.”
She encouraged the public to follow laws and regulations and to report criminal activity.

“We depend on our CPW, CPF and street committees to ensure the laws are being adhered to,” she added.

Officials from Charl Cilliers, Leandra, Kinross, Evander, eMbalenhle, Secunda, Trichardt, Bethal, and eMzinoni took part in the operation.
