Dog saved from manhole in Standerton

The animal is being treated at the Standerton Veterinary Clinic.

A resident made the heartbreaking discovery on August 20 of a dog that had fallen into an open manhole on Frederick Street, Meyerville.

According to Jandré Kasselman of Kasselman Security Services, the company received a tip from the community about the dog lying in a manhole.

Reaction officers were dispatched, and they removed the dog before taking it to the Standerton Veterinary Clinic.

The dog had not sustained serious injuries from the fall or the electrical cables in the manhole, but was extremely hungry when it arrived at the vet.

The dog was treated by Dr Amelia Swart. At the time of going to print, no one had claimed the dog. According to Kasselman, open manholes are a major concern in Standerton.

“They pose an enormous threat to our community as dogs and people could easily fall in,” said Kasselman.

He stated that uncovered manholes also open doors for crime, as criminals can easily steal cables from them.

The dog has not been claimed yet.
