Grootdraai Dam’s water level remains stable

DWS urges residents to continue to use water sparingly as South Africa is one of the 30 driest countries worldwide.

The Department of Water and Sanitation released its weekly state of reservoirs report on August 20, stating that Grootdraai Dam is the only dam in the Gert Sibande district that remains unchanged at 98.6%.

All other dams in the district recorded declines.

The Gert Sibande district average dropped from 98.5% to 98.3%, whilst average water levels in Mpumalanga showed declines from 98.2% to 97.8%.

Nooitgedacht Dam dropped from 100.3% to 99,4%. Vygeboom Dam showed a decline from 100.4% to 100.2%. Jericho Dam dropped from 95.2% to 94.4%. Westoe Dam also recorded declines from 81.9% to 79.8%.

Morgenstond Dam declined marginally from 100.1% to 100.0% whilst Heyshope Dam declined from 100.2% to 100.1%. Themba Khoza, spokesperson for the DWS stated that current water levels are satisfactory, however the DWS continues to urge water conservation throughout Mpumalanga.
