Foundation supports young soccer players in Standerton

Bafana Tshabalala's foundation runs as a boot camp every December in Johannesburg.

The Tshabalala Soccer Foundation was started and operated by Bafana Tshabalala in 2023 to encourage and train talented young soccer players.

According to Tshabalala, he got the idea to start the foundation when playing professionally for the Platinum Stars. Tshabalala began playing professionally at 16 and continued for three years. He left soccer to begin and run the foundation.

It started with six players who attended the intense training camp and has since grown to over 50 players. Tshabalala house 12 permanent players aged 13 to 19 in Johannesburg, all with family roots in Standerton.

These learners balance school and their budding soccer careers at the foundation.

“Our main goal is to produce professional soccer players by combining discipline and hard work,” stated Tshabalala.

The young players all belong to different teams in Johannesburg, including Highlands Park, Joburg City, Joburg Kosmos and Sekhukhule.

“We teach our young players that talent alone is not enough; you need to work hard,” said Tshabalala.
