Organisation inspires young talent at festival in eMbalenhle

Renowned performer Action Maluleka led workshops over the two days.

The Imbumba Art Organisation hosted a two-day arts festival at Maphala Gulube Primary School Hall in eMbalenhle on September 6 to 7.

The event brought together young artists who competed for prizes and attended acting workshops led by renowned performer Action Maluleka.
Maluleka encouraged aspiring artists to persevere in the face of challenges in the creative industry.

“We are in a difficult industry, and not all of us will become successful actors, singers, or dancers. But there are many other opportunities — from producing to scriptwriting or directing,” he said.

He reminded artists not to underestimate one another, adding: “Never give up. Respect your fellow performers because today’s overlooked talent may be tomorrow’s star.”

Festival organiser Nkosinathi Nkosi said the event aimed to motivate young people pursuing careers in the arts and to keep the spirit of creativity alive in eMbalenhle.

“We also had groups from Gauteng in our festival, not forgetting our neighbouring groups from Standerton, Ermelo, and eMalahleni,” said Nkosi.

He expressed concern over the lack of support from the Govan Mbeki Municipality, Gert Sibande District Municipality, and the Department of Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation.

“We want these institutions to prioritise local artists by creating platforms and providing support for their growth. This December, we are planning to host a national camp where groups from all nine provinces will come together to share ideas on how to take performing arts forward.”

Nkosi added that the upcoming camp will also serve as a constructive space for young people during the school holidays. He extended his gratitude to local businesses that offered assistance when approached.
