Body found near Standerskop
SAPS calls on the community to help find the murderer.
The body of Klaas Lushapo (31) was discovered in an open field near Standerskop on September 10, with several gunshot wounds.
According to reports, Lushapo last notified his partner that he was on his way home from work on September 9 around 19:30. Police suspect that Lushapo was killed around 20:00.
The deceased’s bag was found on a pedestrian trail about 50 meters from his body.
According to Captain Braam Robberts, Communications Officer of the Standerton SAPS, this is the second murder to take place in this area, the first being Buhlebenkosi Makhanda.
Though the bodies were discovered a short distance from each other, investigating officers do not believe that the two cases are linked at this stage.
Three of the four suspects who appeared in court for the murder of Makhanda are still in custody, while the fourth is not facing charges of murder. The firearm in this case was never recovered.

Statements indicate that the murder took place in a dark area where the nearest house is 200 meters away, giving the perpetrator ample time to shoot the victim and escape before the crime was reported.
“We request that the community report any persons suspected to be in possession of unlicensed firearms, so they can be verified,” stated Captain Robberts.
The Standerton SAPS said in their report that the senseless killing of hardworking citizens will not be tolerated. They urged residents who use remote walkways to travel in groups and carry self-defense tools such as pepper spray at all times.
During the preliminary investigation, officers identified several hiding spots for criminals and requested that the Lekwa Local Municipality (LLM) level these areas to eliminate threats.
SAPS also requested that lights be erected in these areas to ensure the safety of pedestrians. Any individuals with information that could lead to an arrest can contact the Investigating Officer, Lt Col Skosana, at 076 942 3935.
