Lekwa community learns from cleaning campaign

MMC for Community Services and Safety, Mapaseka Molaba, led the operation and said completing the first phase meant that communities had learnt to manage their waste.

The Lekwa Local Municipality (LLM) completed the first phase of Operation Shanela with a cleaning campaign in Ward 3.

This operation launched on September 8 and aimed to clean the Standerton environment, curb illegal dumping and encourage residents to take pride in their surroundings.

According to Lubabalo Majenge, the LLM spokesperson, the programme aimed to ensure that residents responsibly manage household waste instead of contributing to pollution.

Molaba handed personal protective equipment to participants during the completion ceremony.

“Implementing phase two in rural wards will ensure our clean-up campaign reaches every corner of Lekwa, empowering rural communities with the same awareness,” stated Molaba.
