Leandra Police arrest two for stock theft

The Leandra Police urged the community and farmers who lost their livestock to visit the Leandra Police station to check if it their cattle and to then open cases.

The Leandra Police arrested two 38-year-old-men this morning (November 4) for the possession of suspected stolen cattle to the value of R100 000.

They were arrested on the N17 highway between Leslie and Devon and the arrest follows after members of the Crime Prevention Unit conducted patrols and stopped and searched their vehicle.

According to information received from the police, the police noticed a white bakkie with a canopy driving in the direction of Devon.

The police followed the vehicle using their blue lights until the suspicious vehicles stopped.

They found five carcases of cattle inside the bakkie and it was obvious they were slaughtered shortly before the search as the carcasses still had skin on as well as the heads of the cattle.

The driver could not give a valid explanation as to where the cattle came from and why it was inside of his vehicle.
