First Highveld youth choir head boy in Standerton in 34 years

Terrence Zwane wants to strengthen his leadership skills by helping build the choir alongside talented individuals who share his passion for music.

Terrence Zwane has been selected as the head boy of the Highveld Youth Choir for 2026. He is the first head boy from Standerton in 34 years.

The only other head boy was Afrikaans music icon Pieter Koen. Terrence, a Grade 11 learner at Standerton High School, has been part of the SHS choir for four years.

He joined the Highveld Youth Choir in 2024.

“I never thought I would get the chance to be a role model for such a thriving choir. I am grateful for this opportunity,” said Terrence.

He looks forward to maintaining discipline and order within the choir and helping new members feel welcome. After school, Terrence plans to study architecture or computer science.

He is also considering becoming an animator, as he is actively developing his drawing skills. When he is not on stage, he enjoys writing and creating traditional artwork.

“I hope to publish one of my books one day,” said Terrence.

He enjoys a wide range of music, from deep house to jazz.

Terrence wants to strengthen his leadership skills by helping build the choir alongside talented individuals who share his passion for music.

“Our choir is a thriving family, and I hope to help it grow,” said Terrence.
