Learners from various schools compete in Spelling Bee in Secunda

Nyandeni Primary School of Standerton wins Spelling Bee.

Friends of the Library hosted a Spelling Bee on October 23 at Graceland Hotel, Casino and Country Club. Sphesihle Mguni of Sasolia Primary School won the competition. Uzayr Ali Shaik of Curro Secunda Primary finished second, while Karabo Mofokeng of Nyandeni Primary School was third.

Nyandeni Primary School of Standerton won the team category of the Spelling Bee, while Thandanani Primary School of Bethal and Allan Makhunga Primary School of eMbalenhle tied for second place.

Other schools that participated in the Spelling Bee included Osizweni Primary School, the Highveld Muslim School, Laerskool Kinross, Cum-Laude Academy, Thistle Grove Combined School, Amazing Grace Academy, Igugulabasha Primary School, and Mpumelelo Primary School.

Additional participants were Sizahele Primary School, Ulwazi Primary School, PE Mmaziya Primary School, Zamokuhle Primary School, Highveld Christian College, Trichardtsfontein Primary School, Highveld Ridge Primary School, Sidinguluwazi Primary School, and Shapeve Primary School.

Learners from the Deaf and Blind Association of South Africa also participated, with an interpreter translating the words for the deaf learners.

The aim of inviting Deaf and Blind SA was to create awareness and show other learners that deaf children are equally capable of taking part in such competitions.
