Operation Shanela 2 leads to the arrest of suspects for dealing in drugs in eMbalenhle

The operation yielded significant successes.

eMbalenhle SAPS conducted a successful Operation Shanela 2 between 03:00 and 11:00 today (March 20), focusing on crime prevention, compliance, and high-visibility policing.

The operation targeted identified crime hotspots within eMbalenhle. Activities included stop-and-search operations, vehicle searches, patrols, and door-to-door interventions aimed at disrupting criminal activities and enhancing community safety.

The operation yielded significant successes, with the arrest of five suspects on drug-related charges. Four suspects were arrested for possession of drugs during patrols and stop-and-search operations.

One person was arrested for dealing in drugs, with drugs valued at about R25 000 confiscated.  Another person was arrested for dealing in dagga, with an estimated value of R600.

The total estimated value of drugs seized during the operation is R28 500. All suspects are expected to appear before Evander Magistrate Court soon.

“The success of the operation demonstrates SAPS ongoing commitment to proactive policing and its determination to combat drug-related crimes, which remain a key contributor to other serious offences within the community,” said Colonel Mavela Masondo, police spokesperson in Mpumalanga.

“Members displayed commendable discipline, teamwork, and dedication throughout the operation, contributing positively to maintaining law and order in the area.

“SAPS continues to urge community members to work together with law enforcement by reporting any suspicious or criminal activities. Community cooperation remains vital in the fight against crime,” concluded Masondo.
