The arrest followed a spade of thefts from vehicles inside Camp 13.

Following a spade of thefts from the Delmas SAPS vehicle Camp 13, two suspects were arrested. The two suspects were caught in the early morning hours of December 1.

According to Captain Carla Hartley, media spokesperson for the Delmas Police, members of AfriForum Valke Neighbourhood Watch conducted night observation duties outside Camp 13 at the police station.

The members made use of sophisticated night-sight equipment. The neighbourhood watch members then spotted two suspects in possession of tools inside the camp.

The two were arrested and detained at the Delmas Police Station. The arrest followed a spade of thefts from vehicles inside Camp 13.

In one such incident, a group of disgruntled truck owners contacted Streek News after five vehicles were broken into and stripped to the bone inside the police camp.

The spokesperson of the group, Lukas Mahlangu, told Streek News at the time that their vehicles were impounded for suspicion of crimes, but upon release on November 2, they found that the vehicles had been stripped of cables, computer boxes, batteries and many more essential parts. None of the vehicles, although driven into Camp 13, were able to drive out of the station. (Streek News, November 10).

Hartley at the time, admitted that the police were well aware of cases of theft inside Camp 13 and that investigations into the matter were ongoing.

At the time of going to print, the two suspects, both 25 years old and from Zimbabwe were to appear in the Delmas District Court on December 4.

Hartley, on behalf of the Delmas Police Station, expressed her gratitude towards the members of the Valke Neighbourhood Watch for their help in the successful arrest of the two suspects.
