Tiny body dumped in Secunda CBD is that of a newborn

Police are investigating the concealment of a birth.

Secunda police just reveaveled the small body found in a bin in Secunda’s CBD this afternoon, is in fact that of a fully developed newborn boy and not a fetus as was initially been believed.

The Ridge Times reported earlier of Secunda police responding at about 15:25 to the scene of a fetus found dumped in a dustbin near Superspar, Eastside Centre, in Horwood Street.

A homeless man was digging inside the rubbish bin for tins and food when he found the little boy.

The infant’s body was wrapped in a box, inside a Clicks plastic.

ER24 declared the baby dead on the scene.

Station Commander, Col Vena Sigo, said police are looking into CCTV footage and that they will be able to trace the suspect.

A case of concealment of birth has been opened.

Anyone who may have witnessed the dumping or have information that could lead to an arrest can contact the station on 017 631 8471.
