Court sends eMbalenhle woman to jail for 57 years

Sifiso Khubeka was killed in April last year and his body was later found in the Roodebank River.

Nonhlanhla Portia Nkosi was sentenced to 57 year imprisonment on Wednesday after she pleaded guilty in October to the murder of eMbalenhle resident Sifiso Lucky Khubeka last April.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi has welcomed the sentence on counts of murder, kidnapping as well as assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Sifiso Khubeka, was reported missing on April 21, 2024.

The sentencing was delivered by the Evander Magistrate’s Court.

The court heard how the police investigation led to the arrest of a criminal syndicate involved in kidnapping, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, intimidation and cybercrime and robbery-related offences.

The state presented a watertight case against Nkosi and secured a conviction. The perpetrator was then sentenced to the 57 years imprisonment for her involvement in the murder of Kubheka, as well as the kidnapping and assault of another victim.

The co-accused pleaded not guilty and will continue to face trial.

The police investigation team worked tirelessly to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book.

Mkhwanazi, has further commended the team of police detectives, the prosecution team and the judiciary which culminated into the well-deserved sentence. “We are pleased with the successful outcome of this case and the efforts of our members. We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that those who break the law are brought to book, ” said the General.
