An elderly man is appearing the Wakkerstroom Periodical Court today (July 22) in connection with the murder of an 18-year old girl.

The 64-year-old man walked into the Wakkerstroom Police Station’s Community Service Centre on Monday afternoon (July 20) and told police officers on duty that he had strangled his “female friend” at his house.

Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, police spokesperson in Mpumalanga, said the police went with the man to his residence at Hlobisa Section, Esizameleni, where he pointed out the body of the deceased.

“She was found lying naked beneath bedding in one of the rooms and her clothes had been placed over the body to cover the face and private parts.

“All stakeholders were summoned to the scene, including Emergency Medical Services, who declared the victim dead at the scene.”

According to Ndubane, the deceased had obtained a protection order against the suspect earlier this month. The man was arrested.
