Recreation centres in Govan Mbeki Municipality are to get a facelift

I put my head on the block that, by the end of June this year, the perimeter fence will have been installed and the rest of the project will continue in the next financial year.

The recreation centres, the Johannes Stegman Theatre and the Lillian Ngoyi Centre and Stadium, will get a facelift from the Govan Mbeki Municipality.

Mayor Nhlakanipho Zuma said the GMM wants to see a return of the recreation facilities to state-of-the-art buildings that perform their functions.

However, Zuma said they first need to reduce the vandalism incidents.

He also said the GMM wants to renew or reintroduce the Secunda Jazz and Cultural Festival this year.

Zuma said he is now responsible for fixing the Sijongile Ndamase Community Hall in eMbalenhle.

“I put my head on the block that, by the end of June, the perimeter fence will be installed. The rest of the project will continue in the next financial year.

“Security will be upgraded to protect the hall, but the gadget that will be installed won’t stop criminals from entering. We also need security personnel to control access.

“The question is, what will the attitude be of the community in making sure that the hall is safe from being vandalised?” asked Zuma.
