Two from Teks Shooting Club claim third place at IPSC world shoot in Thailand
The next IPSC World Shoot will be hosted in 2025 in Stilfontein, South Africa.
At the IPSC Handgun World Shoot hosted in Pattaya Thailand, from November 16 to December 3, Teks Shooting Club seniors Hendrik Engelbrecht and Jean Engelbrecht, together with Neil Taylor and Peter Lindstrom from Gauteng, claimed third place in the production optics senior division.
America claimed first place, with Italy coming in second.
This world shoot is an international competition that takes place every three years, with 2020 postponed for two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Seventy-three countries participated in the recent world shoot with 1 345 competitors that faced 30 challenging stages.
Speaking to the Ridge Times, Hendrik described this event, having attended one in 2017 in France, as the best world shoot yet.
“The way this world shoot was presented was unbelievable. The organising of the ranges was amazing,” said Hendrik.
Competitors had to compete in scorching temperatures of 35 degrees and upwards. Humidity levels were extremely high. We had to stay hydrated and drink plenty of water all the time.”
The youngest shooter at the world shoot was 10 years, with the eldest 82.
As for the SA optics senior division team, Hendrik said, “As individuals, we have been competing against each other for years to get selected for the team, but when we got to Thailand we worked as a team and worked together.”
He said that even when competing against each other before the world championships, they would plan.
The next world shoot will be hosted in 2025 in Stilfontein, South Africa. The gloves are now off for the SA optics senior division team, who are in training and will compete against each other at the nationals to be held on February 18 and 19 in Gauteng.
