Parkrunners up and ready for the route in Standerton

More than 60 people took part in the Standerton parkrun at Riverpark on Saturday, March 4.

More than 60 people took part in the Standerton parkrun at Riverpark on Saturday, March 4.

Some ran, others jogged at a slower pace and several participants briskly walked the 5km route of the 181th parkrun.

Siyabonga Kamhelo, with 43 parkrun notches on his belt, crossed the finish line in a time of 17:31.

Youngster Juma Kadar achieved a personal best time with 24:36, followed by Johan Ferreira with a time of 25:44.

Another young runner, Reneilwe Tsotetsi finished in a time of 27:30, followed by Wassie Rossouw in 27:50.

Daleney Grobbelaar, a junior woman between 11 and 14, set a new personal best time of 29:25.

Mariette Jansen van Vuuren was the second woman home in an overall seventh position. Her time was 30:09.

Katleho Sebiloane was eight in a time of 32:52, Vusi Mavuso set a time of 34:48 and Andrew Ainsworth finished 10th in 34:50.

Parkrun is an event where participants do not compete against each other, but rather work to improve their own personal best times.

The volunteers for this week, were Ishara Pillay, Jennifer Naidoo, Johannes Vosloo, Kay Pillay, Krishnalal (Johnny) Ramdharee, Lizette Jansen van Rensburg, Priscilla Ramdharee, Renette de Sousa, Ruwan Vermaak, Sean Jansen van Rensburg and Sylvy Moodly.

Parkrun takes place every Saturday at 08:00.
