Mpho Gift Mokoena wins the 42.2km Goldi Marathon in Standerton

Chrizelle Roberts from Standerton won the women’s division in 1:33:37, while Ntombi Ncongwane was second in 1:39:43 and Simone Coetzee third in 1:45:05.

Mpho Gift Mokoena was triumphant at the Goldi Marathon when he reached the finish line of the 42.2km race in a time of 2:34:25 on March 21.

Hoërskool Standerton hosted the event at which participants could compete in the 42.2km, 21.1km, 10km or a fun walk.

Tshiamo Lephoto was second in the 42.2km race with a time of 2:39:09, followed by Macabeni Mhlangu in 2:43:41.

Lindiwe Mtombeni was first in the women’s division in 3:35:06, Jo Claassen was second in 3:38:01, and Hlobi Madida third in 3:41:44.


The concentration shows as these athletes make their way to the finish line.

Steven Seshlaku won the veteran 40+ division in 3:05:04, followed by Joseph Mgomezulu in 3:12:36. Mtombeni also won the veteran 40+ for women, and Madida was second.

Amos Mgomezulu was first in the master 50+ division at 3:13:14, followed by Absalon Mthimunyo in a time of 3:16:22.

Vanessa Haarhoff was the first woman in this division in a time of 4:36:28, with Annelie Hiscock second in 4:36:28.

Johan Makanya was first in the grand masters 60+ division and completed the distance in 3:57:57, with Lynn Semple, the female counterpart, running a time of 4:36:31.

Siyabonga Xowana came first in the 21.1km at 1:13:34, followed by Emmanuel Motaung at 1:20:34 and Sipho Lukhele at 1:22:17.

Lukhele also won the veteran 40+ division, followed by Joseph Bubusi in 1:28:28. Linda Koortzen was first in the women’s division in 1:50:35, with Marietjie Lombard second in 1:59:24.

Nkozana Mabizela came first in the veteran 50+ division in 1:35:08, with Seth Dlamini second in 1:39:02.

Corinne Strydom was the first woman in this division and ran a time of 2:10:36, with Alet Pretorius second in 2:12:04.

Peter Ortell ended first in the grand masters’ category in 1:48:46, with Frieda Muir the first woman at the finish line in 2:16:34.

Leon Schoenfeldt was first for the walkers in 2:43:50, and Hester Badenhorst was the first woman in 2:36:22.
Emmanuel Motaung won in the junior division and completed the distance in 1:20:34.
