Cellphones and cash stolen at retail store in Standerton

The staff were tied up and could not get to the panic button.

Reports of an armed robbery at a national retail store in Charl Cilliers Street in the CBD were received on April 4.

According to the information, a small, white light-duty vehicle, with no canopy, was on the scene. Altogether four suspects, wearing black T-shirts, with a big brown bag, were involved.

According to the store manager, she was counting money at the back of the store. A staff member knocked on the door and several voices telling her to open the door, were heard.

She opened the door and saw and saw all staff members tied with cable ties. The staff were then told to sit down in the office.

She identified herself as store manager after being asked and instructed to open the cash registers.

According to information, one suspect remained with the staff. The cashiers were then collected as they only could open the cash registers.

Only two cash registers were opened and an unknown amount of money was taken. The cellphone display case was next, she forcefully opened it and all the cellphones were stolen.

They then took them back to the office, locked the door and left. The store has no cameras and only float money was taken from the drop safe.

The store manager has a spare key to the office, unlocked the door at about 17:20 and called the police.
No injuries were reported.

SAPS and Kasselman Security Services were on the scene.

A request was made to any business with CCTV footage or any witnesses to come forward to assist with information to find and arrest these suspects.
