EFF wants answers on the misuse of hired machine in eMbalenhle
The party wants the culprits to be held accountable.
The EFF in Govan Mbeki Municipality claims a grader procured for the municipality on a contract was seen being used in the yard of a well-known businessperson in eMbalenhle on May 8.
According to the EFF councillor, Wilson Chauke, the grader had been hired by the municipality and is managed by the technical services for stormwater drains and road maintenance in eMbalenhle.
The party leaders have sent questions to the executive mayor, Nhlakanipho Zuma about this incident.
“We asked the mayor who was responsible for dispatching this grader to do a private job at the expense of the ratepayers, what punitive corrective measures have been taken and the responsible person has been suspended.
“If that person has not been suspended, we want to know why not.”
Chauke said this was an act of corruption and the punitive measures should send a clear message to all the municipal officials that such action cannot be tolerated.
Chauke alleged that many municipal officials are given marching orders from councillors, MMCs and the mayor.

He said the council needs to act now to stop this trend and to allow service delivery to reach the people.
Some councillors allegedly tried to stop the use of the industrial machine but were then instructed to stop what they were doing.
The mayor told the Ridge Times on May 23 that he has not yet received a letter from the EFF. He will respond to the allegation once he receives the letter.
