Construction of new pipeline at Kieser Reservoir in Standerton

Trenches were dug, and Coligny Street had the tell-tale signs of clean water flowing south.

The water supply in Ward 10 was interrupted the past week because Lekwa Local Municipality (LLM) said construction was underway at the Kieser Reservoir.

A new pipeline had to be connected and commissioned to the Round Reservoir on June 1, according to the LLM.

The LMM asked the community to store water and apologised for any inconvenience caused. The Standerton Advertiser investigated the construction at the reservoir this past week.

The trenches were dug, and Coligny Street had the tell-tale signs of clean water flowing south.

Wilma Venter, a Freedom Front Plus councillor in Ward 10, previously texted on a WhatsApp group that the Standerton Water Treatment Plant took about four hours to start working.

The pumps must start, the sedimentation tank must fill, and eventually, the Kieser Reservoir can begin to pump water to the community.

The spokesperson for the Lekwa Community Forum (LCF), Sello Tsotetsi, listed the construction of a new reservoir as one of the administration’s accomplishments since taking office.

Standerton’s exorbitant losses of clean water were reported on in the past.

Mayor Delani Louis Thabethe identified a few key problems, such as the ageing infrastructure, also having asbestos pipes in the network, reservoirs with insufficient capacity, dysfunctional reservoirs, and the impact of load-shedding.
