The existence of potholes in Standerton is putting motorists’ lives in danger. Standerton Advertiser went on a hunt in search of large potholes on June 17.
In certain areas, residents have tried filling up the potholes with sand or stones. Organisations such as AfriForum and Lekwa Clean Up Crew have also jumped in to fill up numerous potholes.
According to the spokesperson of Lekwa Municipality, Noluthando Nkosi, the municipality does have a plan in place to repair the roads in Standerton.
“In the past financial year, we’ve managed to rehabilitate 1.4km of Hlongwane Drive, patched potholes at Nelson Mandela Drive, Walter Sisulu Drive, Beyers Naudé Street, Princess Street and the refurbishment of 700m at Princess Street is underway.”
“There is a budget provision of R7 150 000 to deal with all the roads within Lekwa jurisdiction, including the CBD,” Nkosi said.
